Lot Information

The picture has a signature that could be Young Tom Morris as no other example exits. It may read Tom Morris - Jas Auchterlonie, The reverse mage give some extra indication, written in pencil it reads Thomas Morris Jnr. Champion golfer and son of elder Tom Morris of St. Andrews Jamie - Signed in his own hand and given to Jas Auchterlonie of South Street St. Andrews by Tom Morris senior. Passed through the family to the current decendents. Tom Morris, Jnr. was born on 20th April 1851 and passed away on Christmas Day 1875. He was also better known as ?Young Tom Morris? being as his Father was Tom Morris as well. He is considered one of the pioneers of professional golf and was the first young prodigy in golf history. Which is not surprising when you look at what his father achieved. He won four consecutive titles in the Open Championship, (British Open) an unmatched feat even 150 years later He was born in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, and also died there in 1875, aged only 24. The photograher Thomas Rodger was an early pioneer of this profession, he also lived in St. Andrews
