Lot Information

One of, if not the most important book ever written on golf. Classed as the first anthology. Robb gives us the first insight to golf courses and the players from the very beginning of golf. It has been quoted that less the 15 of these books are in collectors hands. One has not appeared in auction since the heady days of the mid 1980s and is unlikely do so in the future. 58 printed pages this book has lost its flimsy paper covers it have been bound in black boards possibly as long as 100+ years ago, usual brown tinge colour to the plain end papers the contents itself on the book is classed as being in very good condition. Remarkable for a book that's nearly 155 years old. A true golfing rarity. This book contains an absorbing history of the Bruntsfield Links, descriptions of Dutch 'Kolf' and French 'Jeu de Mail,' the now famous sketch of 'Cock o' the Green,' and a reprint of 'The Golfers Garland,' one of the two poems added to the third edition of Mathison's The Goff. Also referred to by Cecil Hopkinson in his 'Histories' section: Donovan & Murdoch 1380; Murdoch 293. Previous Auction prices for this title are $22000 in 2006 & $14000 in 2007 (these has their soft covers issues)
