Lot Information

Henry Thomas Alken (12 October 1785 ? 7 April 1851) was an English painter and engraver chiefly known as a caricaturist and illustrator of sporting subjects and coaching scenes. His most prolific period of painting and drawing occurred between 1816 and 1831. Intro by G Padgett with the comments by Darwin. None golf but a real Darwin Find Quintin McGarel Hogg, Baron Hailsham of St Marylebone, KG, CH, PC, QC, FRS (9 October 1907 ? 12 October 2001), who held the title 2nd Viscount Hailsham from 1950 to 1963, was a British politician known for the length of his career, the vigour with which he campaigned for the Conservative Party, and the influence of his political writing. He was considered for the leadership of his party (which would have led to his becoming Prime Minister) in 1963, and held for more than a decade the office formerly held by his father, that of Lord Chancellor.
