Gillespie came from Edinburgh to Florida in 1886 to assist a development company partially owned by his father. He immediately built a two greens, one fairway practice area, two years before the St. Andrew?s Golf Club was formed, in New York in 1888. Golf had come to Florida first. Gillespie built a nine hole course himself in 1904. Additionally, he designed six more courses in Florida and one in Cuba. Printed in the upper corner is Kissimmee Fla State Fair Edition.
